What is our purpose as Christians?

This is a very similar question to the question many Non-Christians find themselves asking; "What is the purpose of life?" Now some secularists might tell you it is to live life to the fullest or accomplish your dreams, but I don't think that is the case. See life is not always going to be like this, we must think of what is going to happen next, in the afterlife. The Bible states that everyone will either go to heaven or hell.

I like to think of this world as a bus stop. The first bus is the most popular bus, the party bus if you will, the one where people drink and enjoy life without thinking of any consequence in their decisions, or their final destination. This bus is the one that most people take and sadly leads to hell. The second bus is less popular and stands out from other busses, it takes a bumpier road. As you have probably guess this bus leads to heaven. I think it is our purpose as Christians to tell all those people that there is another option, that they don't have to be like all the others in this world. (Romans 12:2 says: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." ) We should be the ones standing in front of that party bus doing everything in our ability to show those people what they are getting themselves into and how to change.

One of the last things that Jesus said before He ascended into heaven was that we are to go and make disciples of all men. In other words to tell everyone about Jesus, His love and sacrifice, that is our purpose.

We also have to remember that God has a spectacular plan for all of our lives. Jeremiah 29:11 says: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. He knows all that is going to happen and He will work it out for good."
